If you want to get regular road racing you need to do it through a club.
In Auckland, the only active road club is Counties Manukau Cycling (CMC).
CMC runs road races, the Auckland time trial and road race championships and in 2024 is launching a teams event. We're waiting to find out if the teams events will allow younger college students.
Like the school TTT's and iBuilt tour, CMC runs events South of Auckland, usually at least 45 mins drive from central Auckland where we live.
If you live in the Waikato area there's a lot more going on. Three clubs there are really active:
In the summer you can race on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights through these three clubs. The often have current tour pros and Olympians there. Almost reason to move there!
Whatever club you join, you do it through the Cycling New Zealand membership portal. Most clubs allow you to race as a ‘casual’ once or twice, then you need to signup through this cycling and provide a membership number each time you enter an event. It's not too expensive, under $100 per year.
