Pedals & shoes - click here to enlarge

Yes! You need to think about pedals.

When you start out cycling “flat pedals” are what you use.

For serious cyclists the only option is “clipless” pedals, which you clip into with cleats that are attached to cycling shoes.

There are two different fitting types for clipless pedals: Look and Shimano. Jona uses look pedals … for no particular reason than they're the first clipless pedals we got with a used bike.

Clipless pedals means your foot doesn't come off the pedal when you're cycling, making it safer and improving your pwoer output by enabling you to lift as well as push each pedal.

Cycling shoes range in price quite a bit. The pro shoes have carbon fibre soles and use “boa” for tightening the laces.

While you're at it, don't forget the cycling socks. They're light and breathable to suit cycling.

Shoe covers are another thing that exists to keep cycling families poor. They can keep your shoes & feet dry, are aerodynamic and can make you look very stylish. Jona has been given some and we picked up a few more at Evo's clearance sale. They seem to get worn out kinda fast unfortunately.
