Indoor training means setting up your bike on a trainer and riding without moving anywhere.
You can use a fancy digital trainer with an app like Zwift which allows you to do virtual training rides and races against other people.
You can also use a cheaper trainer where you just set the resistance level and ride at whatever level of intensity you want.
Jona has a few different trainers, many thanks to the well stocked SHC cycling shed:
- Elite Suito-T smart trainer
- Elite Arion smart rollers (especially handy for track bikes)
- Tacx boost cycle trainer (good for wet weather at races)
- LeMond Fitness Revolution trainer (see a review)
- A basic static trainer
Indoor training is really handy when you're working on achieving / sustaining particular power output levels.
Jona would also say it's a good idea when the weather is bad, but dad like the way Irish cycling legend Shawn Kelly thinks.
